New Blog: Fashion Intellect

I have always enjoyed reading well-written articles and in-depth essays on numerous topics pertaining to the fashion industry. Unfortunately, I have a hard time finding these published works again when I need to use them as references or to simply re-read them months/years later.

So I decided to start a new blog called, Fashion Intellect to document essays and articles published in the press: newspapers, magazines, etc.

Initially, I tried using JPG format for the articles but I realized it was not a convenient vehicle for easy reading. Then I thought of simply using links but I hate links because some sites have too many ads and pop-ups. So I ended up with the cut & paste format with appropriate credits given to the authors, publishers and such.

Let me know what you think of the new blog. Do you like the format? Is there another easier way to read the articles?

Du Juan Ad Campaign for H&M Fall 2008/Winter 2009

These H&M ads are Du Juan's 3rd major ad campaign this season, after Giorgio Armani and David Yurman. She is currently riding high as the top Asian models (#16 in the Top 50) on the Models.com list.

Three other Asian models made the list with Hye Park (#18) with 2 major ad campaigns this season for MaxMara and Tiffany; Lakshmi Menon (#35) with one major ad campaign for Givenchy; and Daul Kim (#45) who clocked in more editorials than any of the girls.

Daul Kim Editorial for Korea Vogue, June 2008

I love Daul Kim in this editorial because the photographer and stylist managed to bring out the softer side of her. Sometimes Daul Kim can come off looking a little hard edged and angry, which does not always translate well into fashion editorials.

But this editorial is perfectly soft, amazingly fluid and utterly sexy. Bravo to the people at Korea Vogue for finding the softer side of Daul Kim.

BTW, is this the full set of photos? Does anyone know if there are more?

Du Juan Magazine Cover & Editorial for (Hong Kong) WestEast Magazine, Spring 2008

This is an interesting (unglamourous) cover of Du Juan for Hong Kong's English language magazine, WestEast. I have seen this magazine many times at Barnes & Nobles but never read it until recently. I always thought it was a California-based publication because of its focus American-American celebrities (instead of HK-celebrities).

The B&W photo plus minimal touch up (i.e. PhotoShop) makes for an interesting magazine cover. It was a brave attempt. It reminded me of a W Magazine editorial of Kate Moss without any makeup or PhotoShop.

Yoon Jin Wook Editorial for Korea Esquire, January 2008

Here is another editorial with Yoon Jin Wook for Korea Esquire Magazine, January 2008. Initially, I thought it was an American publication because of the huge English texts in the photos. It was only later when I noticed the small Korean text at the bottom that it was a Korean publication.

Nonetheless, I like the mix media of photographs and comic book drawings in this editorial. It's rare to see both these media mixed so successfully. I love everything about this editorial except for the hair in photos #3 and #5. At least he didn't have that Tina Turner hair that is so popular among Korean pop stars today.

Han Jin Editorial for Korea Elle Girl, June 2008

Han Jin looks good in this editorial but the styling is not great. Then again, this is an Elle Girl editorial and the target audience are teenagers and young adults.

But seriously, do teenagers really read Elle Girl and Teen Vogue, instead of the regular Elle and Vogue? I mean, I was reading Vogue and Elle since I was 12 years old. Granted, this was before Elle Girl and Teen Vogue came out but still, I doubt I would have read them. What do you think? Do you read Elle Girl or Teen Vogue?

Also who is the second model in this editorial?
